ALLDATA is an online factory diagnostic and repair manual resource used by repair garages nationwide. When my dad was a mechanic, he used ALLDATA every day - he said it's a lot easier than dealing with paper factory service manuals and it has a LOT more information than a Chilton's or Haynes manual.

ALLDATAdiy.com is the version of that for people who work on their own cars. Still the same data used by the pros, but you pay per vehicle instead of a large monthly fee to access any vehicle.

Normal fees for a 1 year subscription is: $26.95 for the first car, $16.95 for each additional.
Normal fees for a 5 year subscription is: $44.95 for the first car, $29.95 for each additional.

With promo code RENEWDIY , you can get 1 year for $9.95 or 2 years for $12.95. This promo code applies to both the first car and additional cars.

This promotion is good through January 30th.

I just used this code to sign up for it for Project $300, my '00 Pontiac Grand Am SE. With the electrical gremlins it has, I'm going to need it.

Huh. I always thought Alldata would be pricier...I used it in school, great program. Might have to sign up a few cars.

Ten bucks for a year sure beats 27 bucks.

Good deal. New car with warranty defeats the purpose for me at the moment. Maybe if I got to wrenching on the E30 but my wallet says no right now.

We use Mitchell at work, the two are similar, but I honestly prefer Alldata. Pull up schematics, diagrams, specs, procedure's instantly. Another favorite is Identifix, mechanics post up fixes to common problems, flowcharts and tips. Say you have a P0171 on a Toyota Camry with a 4 cylinder. Type it into the search bar, and the most common fixes will come up. Ecu reflashes, clean or replace MAF, replace air/fuel sensor. Also tells you if there is a TSB.

Even though I hate NoData, this is a screaming deal, especially if you're not a pro. It's got easy more info than most DIY's will ever need. But it does occasionally make assumptions and not tell you every step, so you do have to be careful when getting into bigger jobs. For instance, the steps for cylinder head gasket replacement may say to R&R exhaust manifold but neglect to mention that because this is a turbo motor the whole engine needs to be removed because half of the bolts are inaccessible. It makes the same assumptions about labor times, head gasket R&R 6.2 hours but it doesn't tell you that the 10.5 hours for engine R&R aren't included. So you think "hey! This looks super easy, should be able to do it in a weekend no problem!" . Next thing you know you're in over your head and are getting the car and its parts towed to a shop and are going to be billed more than if you had just brought it to them in the first place. In my shop, especially for Euro cars, we look at NoData as a rough estimate, it's screwed many of us over too many times to really trust it.

TLDR: As far as generic online service manuals go I think Mitchell blows NoData out of the water. But this NoData deal is great for most DIY stuff.

My parents run a garage, so I have free unlimited access to ALLDATA Pro. It's awesome.
